We are committed to preserving and promoting Georgetown’s heritage through preservation advocacy, education, and community engagement. Our goals are to promote the historic interests of Georgetown and increase community and member engagement while maintaining a healthy financial base for the organization.

We are extremely fortunate that a steadfast community, a supportive City government, and a strong membership keep the ideals and realities of preservation alive.

Preservation Georgetown looks forward to timely new programs, projects, and events that reflect the vitality of historic Georgetown.

We contribute to our history daily and encourage progress only when carefully balanced with preservation. Preservation must be intentional - it does not happen by accident - and it can only success with belief of its importance. It can only flourish with community participation. Every generation must work together, appreciating what has been done and being ever mindful of what lies ahead.

Preservation is also good economics. As reported by the National Park Service in 2015, “Preservation enhances real estate values and fosters local businesses, keeping historic main streets and downtowns economically viable. Heritage tourism is a real economic force, one that is evident in places that have preserved their historic character. Developers are discovering that money spent rehabilitating historic buildings is an investment in the future, when these structures could be the showpieces of a revitalized city."

 

We are all stewards of history. We will succeed in keeping Georgetown historic through education, involvement, and engagement.
